There is something so comforting and nostalgic about a hot cup of hot cocoa. It warms the body and the soul and reminds me of when I was young, when my family and I would drink steaming hot chocolate from mugs shaped into Santa’s head while decorating our Christmas tree or after a long afternoon of building snow forts outside with the neighborhood children.
My family recently travelled down to Florida to visit my husband and me. While they were down here, we drank hot chocolate one morning. As we sipped the warm cups on our patio, I remembered those cozy childhood moments.

Superfood Turmeric Hot Chocolate
Equipment
- 1.5 quart slow cooker
Ingredients
- 4 cups milk you can also use a nut milk for a vegan version
- 6 dates pitted
- 2 tbsp cocoa
- 1 ½ tsp turmeric
- ¾ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- 1 dash pepper
- 1 dash salt optional
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in the blender and blend until completely smooth, about 2 minutes on high.
- Pour the mixture into the slow cooker and heat on low for about 50 minutes, or until warm. Immediately turn down the slow cooker to the "warm" setting to prevent overheating and curdling.
- Ladle into mugs, garnish with a dash of nutmeg or cinnamon, and enjoy!
